KARACHI: ZTBL recovered from early losses to post a healthy 287 for six against PIA on the opening day of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy final at the National Stadium, Karachi yesterday.

Test-discard Yasir Hameed hit 80 and 22-year-old Haris Sohail scored an unbeaten 97 to steer ZTBL out of trouble after they were reduced to 94 for three earlier in the day as PIA opted to field first.

Imran Nazir was the first batsman to go with the score on six before PIA claimed another wicket with ZTBL’s score on 62.

While wickets kept tumbling around him, Hameed kept scoring at a brisk pace, hitting PIA bowlers to all corners of the park before being dismissed after a 97-ball innings. His innings was laced with 15 fours and a six.

In comparison, Sohail was calm and consumed 236 deliveries, adding 47 with Hameed and putting on 50 with Zohaib Khan to take ZTBL close to the 200-run mark.

A couple of quick wickets disturbed ZTBL’s progress but wicket-keeper Zulqarnain Haider walked in at the fall of the sixth wicket and proved to be an able partner for Sohail, taking the team to safety at stumps. The duo have so far put on 86 for the unbeaten seventh-wicket partnership.

For PIA, Anwar Ali and Akhtar Waheed claimed two wickets apiece while Najaf Shah and Kamran Sajid finished with one wicket each.
