Commissioner assures needed support for traffic police

KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui on Monday said the city administration will fully support traffic police to help avert high incidence of road traffic accidents in the metropolis.The Commissioner taking serious stock of the situation attributed it to the disregard towards compliance of traffic rules and regulations among the citizens themselves.”Over speeding, indifference towards designated one ways, use of cell phones while driving are some of the violations we witness being committed blatantly,” he said.Siddiqui also referred to insensibility registered among motor cyclists about importance of helmets for themselves as well as for other riders hence becoming the worst victims of road accidents.”These motorcyclists are frequently reported to be among the worst violators on traffic rules who expose themselves as well as others, including pedestrians to serious situations,” Siddiqui said.In the given situation he said concerted efforts are needed to ensure strict compliance of traffic rules.”We have to maintain the writ of law and ensure protection and safety of the citizens in general,” he reiterated.Commissioner of Karachi also sought support of civil society organisations and the media to come forward and help educate masses about importance of traffic rules.
